Christianity is the one cheat code that combines all the cheat codes in existence in order to gain the ultimate goal of becoming a god, which is to live forever and not die, either physically or spiritually (mentally). Which is what? Self-consciousness / self-awareness.
The gods are playing chess with us - consider Job and our recent obsession with movies such as The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games and The Matrix. They are betting on us and sometimes get an opportunity to influence our decision-making. Or perhaps they are always doing this, seeing as this is the purpose for which they created us in the first place - i.e. to see who will develop consciousness the fastest. Or who can control vs influence consciousness the most. Forcing choices does not obtain the highest score, as people can't flourish mentally or spiritually when they aren't actually the ones making the decisions.
Or perhaps just God who wants to have an actual regular channel of communication and relationship with His creation, because self-awareness desires connection with other self-aware beings, an animal species as the very basis of such beings' existence. Being self-aware in itself is a relationship based on a vacillating two-way exchange with itself. With all the voices offering the choices. It is when you don't know that you have a choice (like in the Matrix movie) that you are controlled and someone else makes the choice for you. If that person or spirit of control / lack of mindfulness / lack of self-awareness has its way, it would be to destroy your potential for living forever entirely. It wants to destroy everything God created because it doesn't want God to get His way or get it right and be pleased with it (in achieving the goal). It wants God to be sad, to feel disconnected, to feel like a failure. It resents God because it cannot be God. It cannot attain that level. It likes to think that it can be the Ideal, but it has moved into vanity, self-love/obsession; it focuses on itself too much - i.e. narcissism, which is both on equal footing and juxtaposed with neuroticism.
Like the book "The Road Less Travelled", too much self-focus in the form of self-obsession to attain the ideal (self-worship), as opposed to worship of others, prevents your ability to create for others growth, as opposed to others' admiration. Then it becomes a looking at the person, as opposed to the person's ideal. Blurring the lines of the aspect of that person that should be adored, as opposed to the whole of that person or who they are at the core - their being. Their being is not the full ideal; therefore, worshipping them would lead to death. (As God is the only ultimate Ideal.) Their example would lead to death - away from the goal of eternal life. (Note: This is neuroticism - the focus on others in stark and judgmental comparison to yourself.)
Your ideal, though, is in many ways relative to You and your authentic uniquely created being. In other words, your health will peak at your ideal weight, not the ideal weights of others; so too your spirit and mental focus would peak according to your unique mental talents, intellectual interests and abilities etc.
If it goes away (note: astray) from this, it cannot reach the ideal anyway.
Even though Lucifer could not reach either of these things through his self-worship, he either wants to spite God by making sure no one else attains it also, so that God remains sad and disconnected. God would then ultimately stop creating and give up on the connection with another self-aware being altogether, because Lucifer hates that He could do it and Lucifer could not, or that something precious was taken away from him by God; and so he wants to take something precious away from God too.
What are the two most precious things for a human being, which can be lost? (1) to lose someone they love (2) to lose their purpose in life (3) not dying (eternal life instinct).
Belongings are not one of these precious things, as they are only a means to these ends or a symbol of an end.
